Overview
TAMeLi, the Teacher Academy for Media Literacy, responds to the profound challenges that the digital revolution poses to traditional educational paradigms. In a context marked by rapid technological change, Digital and Media Literacy (DML) has become a crucial competence for all citizens, enabling informed democratic participation and resilience against disinformation.
Ensuring high levels of DML among future learners requires high-quality, forward-looking teacher education. TAMeLi therefore builds on recent European debates around teacher professionalism, moving beyond fragmented, skills-based standards towards a holistic understanding of teaching.
Concretely, TAMeLi draws on the concept of triadic teaching dispositions. This is an approach that views teaching excellence as the dynamic interplay of inclinations (the tendency to act), sensitivities (being sensitive to context) and abilities (what you know and can do) (Perkins, 1993). Within this approach, TAMeLi focuses specifically on collaborating dispositions (teachers working together) and designing dispositions (teachers building evidence-informed learning environments).
To advance the integration of DML in teacher education across Europe, TAMeLi will anchor these dispositions in evidence-based instructional design models. Where desirable, these models will make use of genAI to support (future) teachers as they design from DML in their curricula.
Finally, the project will foster communities of learning and practice. These communities can further equip teacher educators and teachers to design innovative, media-rich learning environments responsive to an evolving digital and AI-driven ecosystem.
