FuJo welcomes new member leading climate misinformation research at DCU

23 April 2026

FuJo is pleased to highlight the work of new member Brenda McNally, who returned to Dublin City University in January 2026 as Principal Investigator on a four-year Research Ireland Pathways project focused on climate misinformation in Irish media.

The project, CliME (Climate Misinformation in Media), aims to map and address evolving forms of climate misinformation across the Irish media landscape. Working alongside PhD researcher Marianne Hofbauer, the initiative will engage journalists and communications professionals to better understand the structural and systemic factors that contribute to the amplification and normalisation of climate policy misinformation in mainstream media.

The CliME project website is currently in development and is expected to launch in May 2026.

In addition to this work, Brenda is co-organising the upcoming pre-IAMCR conference, “Reimagining Climate Media Research: Current Challenges and Future Directions,” which will take place at DCU on 27 June 2026. The event will bring together researchers to explore emerging challenges and future directions in climate media research.

Brenda is also co-editor of an upcoming Thematic Collection for the Journal of the British Academy titled “Just transitions in land use – people, power and pathways,” scheduled for publication in September 2026.

FuJo looks forward to following the impact of this important research and encourages members to engage with these upcoming events and publications.
