TeamLit: Teacher Education in Digital and Media Literacy

Overview

The TeaMLit project, backed by the European Media and Information Fund (EMIF), enhances media and information literacy (MIL) within European teacher education. DCU’s Institute for Future Media, Democracy, and Society (Fujo) is one of the partners responsible for research with Heidelberg University, School of Education, in Germany. The project aims to develop, implement, and disseminate effective media literacy educational practices and resources among teachers, thereby equipping them to better educate students in critically handling media content, also focusing on mis-and-disinformation.

The collaboration includes several notable institutions from across Europe:

  • Media and Learning Association, Belgium
  • Association for Communications and Media Culture (DKMK), Croatia
  • Dublin City University, Institute for Future Media, Democracy, and Society (Fujo), Ireland
  • Heidelberg University, School of Education, Germany
  • Mediawijs, Belgium
  • Finnish Society on Media Education, Finland

The project is divided into several outputs and activities structured to maximise the impact on media literacy education. FuJo's role is focussed primarily on undertaking research to map current MIL practices and identify barriers and delivering accessible reports for educators and policymakers.
