FuJo’s journalism students are participating in an “elecathon” at Storyful’s offices this Friday to build an open source database of information on all Irish political candidates for the 2016 General Election.
The database will be publicly available for citizens to access information about candidates and an open source API will help news organizations, universities and others to build tools and stories around the election debate. The project will be similar to YourNextMP in Britain.
Friday’s “elecathon” session will tease out the technical aspects of the database and begin the process of inputting verified data on the 500-800 general election candidates.
A short video explaining the project and the database will be released shortly afterwards.
