RIA Future of Media Event

On May 6th, the Royal Irish Academy (RIA) will host three panel discussions on the future of media in Ireland.

The event will examine the three goals identified in the Terms of Reference for the Future of Media Commission: the Irish experience; funding models, and international best practice.

The Irish Experience

The Irish Experience panel will examine broadcasting. Particular attention will be given
to the independent broadcasting sector, local and national journalism and the media experience of minorities living in Ireland.

Chaired by Hugh Linehan (The Irish Times), panellists include: Larry Bass (CEO ShinAwiL Productions); Rosemary Day (Mary Immaculate College); Bashir Otukoya (Dublin City University); and Jane Suiter (Dublin City University)

Funding Models

The funding models panel will discuss the current funding models from the perspective of different stakeholders.

Chaired by Sonya Lennon (designer and social entrepreneur), panellists include: Áine Kerr (Kinzen); Kevin Rafter (Dublin City University); and Roberto Suárez Candel (international strategy consultant)

International Best Practice

The international best practice panel will explore examples of international best practice of media while also exploring best practice models that integrate, represent and nurture young people and talent.

Chaired by Sinead O'Carroll (The Journal), panellists include: Sarah Arnold (Maynooth University); Atte Jääskeläinen (Ministry of Education and Culture, Finland)' and Ruth McElroy (University of South Wales)
