New FuJo PhD and Postdoc roles in deliberative democracy and climate misperceptions

15 June 2022

FuJo now has some job opportunities in the area of deliberative democracy and climate misperception narratives.

Postdoctoral researcher on the EU Horizon Project - EUComMeet

The EUComMeet project explores deliberative democracy and the ability of citizen assemblies to improve the information environment. The project seeks to understand under which conditions deliberation and representation can be an effective response to the challenges besetting liberal representative democracies. It brings together a consortium of 9 partners, led by Università degli Studi di Siena.

The FuJo postdoctoral researcher will work on the work package on reflexivity in deliberation and countering misperceptions. Experimental survey and statistical skills are vital.

The deadline for applying to this role is the 5th of July, 2022. For more information see the job advertisement and you can contact Jane Suiter at jane.suiter@dcu.ie with any questions.

PhD and Postdoc in Greenwashing and climate misperception

This funded project will study the transmission of climate denier (greenwashing) and rebuttal narratives through social platforms, mainstream media, and political speech and help establish whether deliberative assemblies can help elites move towards climate action and withstand lobbying and information campaigns from vested interests.

The jobs in this project will be formally announced over the summer but include a number of roles:

  1. Postdoctoral researcher(s) who can work with experimental methods to establish the potential for deliberation to help counter misperceptions and with text as data to identify the narratives through the hybrid media system. Quantitative skills will be vital and a background in a relevant social science is desirable: communications, political science or psychology.
  2. A PhD student interested in the dynamics and networks that shape public and policy attention to climate misperception narratives. You can find out more about the PhD position at this link.

All roles are well funded and involve networking, travel, and training opportunities.

Anyone interested in any of these roles should, in the first instance, informally contact Jane Suiter at jane.suiter@dcu.ie
