Messaging Apps & “Concierge Journalism”

Francesco Marconi in Medium highlights messaging apps as an untapped distribution channel that could allow publishers to develop private relationships with audiences based on shared hyper-specialised interests: "a significant opportunity for the next generation of media companies will come from knowing how to play in messaging apps. For journalists, brands and media creators, that means reimagining how they create content, how they engage users and how they generate revenue."

As a long-term strategy, Marconi sees "conceirge journalism" as part of a new conversational model of news in which the journalist plays the roles of instigator and moderator in group communications and much of the content publishing is derived from automation and bots.: "This is what gives value to the story; the journalist is responsible to initiate the debate and moderate it. He or she can add value to the discussion by fact-checking or providing more information when needed."  Read the full article.
