Media, Democracy, and Society

In an era characterized by rapid technological advancements and shifting socio-political landscapes, the interplay between media, democracy, and society has become increasingly complex and dynamic. The relationship between these three pillars forms the cornerstone of public discourse, shaping public opinion, political participation, and societal norms. Media, as a purveyor of information and a platform for public debate, plays a crucial role in facilitating democratic processes and fostering societal cohesion. However, the interdisciplinary research has brought about both opportunities and challenges, raising questions about the integrity of information, the inclusivity of public discourse, and the functioning of democratic institutions. At the intersection of media, democracy, and society lies a rich tapestry of themes, including the role of media in shaping political narratives, the impact of digital technologies on civic engagement, the dynamics of power and representation in the public sphere, and the challenges posed by misinformation and disinformation. Understanding these dynamics requires interdisciplinary inquiry, drawing on insights from communication studies, political science, sociology, cultural studies, and beyond. The FuJo Conference invites scholars and researchers from diverse disciplines to delve into this interdepartmental theme, exploring the intersections between media, democracy, and society and advancing our understanding of the complexities inherent in contemporary communication and governance.
