Ireland update strengthens European Media Ownership database

01 April 2026

FuJo’s Dr Roddy Flynn has completed the 2025 update for Ireland as part of the European Media Ownership (EMO) project, contributing new data to the major searchable resource mapping media ownership structures across Europe.

The Irish summary report is now available and provides an overview of the national media landscape, highlighting ownership concentration patterns, regulatory context, and key developments since the previous edition. While the summary report offers a snapshot of findings, the primary value of the project lies in the continually expanding database, which allows users to explore detailed information on media companies, their ownership networks, and levels of transparency.

Alongside the EMO update, the MOM Ireland database has undergone a substantial expansion. In March 2026, an additional 50 media outlets were added to the resource, significantly increasing coverage compared with the February 2024 iteration. The upgrade strengthens the depth and usability of the platform for researchers, journalists, policymakers and the public interested in media plurality and transparency in Ireland.

The 2025 Ireland report for the Media Pluralism Monitor is currently in preparation and is expected to be submitted in April.
