On Wednesday, Google announced the recipients of funding under its Digital News Initiative. The €150m fund is designed to drive innovation and experimentation among large and small European news organisations.
The first round of funding will distribute €27m to 28 organisations from 23 European countries. The largest amount of funding per country was awared to Germany with €4.8m followed by €2.8m to the UK. A "large project" and a "prototype project" have received funding in Ireland to the value of €442,000.
Full details about all the funded projects have not yet been released but Journalism.co.uk reports that The Telegraph received funding for a Real-time Sports Action Visualiser project while the Financial Times will be supported to develop a tool to "better understand global news trends".
