An international workshop on news automation will take place this November 4th and 5th at the Institute for Future Media and Journalism (FuJo), in Dublin.
News automation at work: practises and perspectives is coordinated by researchers from Dublin City University (DCU), the University of Helsinki and the Université libre de Bruxelles.
The auto generation of news through a computer script is a technological breakthrough increasingly used by newsrooms. ‘News automation at work’ will focus on this practise called automated journalism that is used by major news organisations such as the Associated Press and the Washington Post.
The impacts of automated journalism on news practitioners, its deployment in non-Western countries such as China and technical aspects of natural-language generation solutions will be discussed among the participants.
“This workshop has been in the making for months, so I’m glad people will finally come over to discuss this new development in media studies,” said Samuel Danzon-Chambaud, co-organiser of the event at DCU.
A limited number of places are still available on a first come, first served basis.
Scholars and students interested in joining the workshop should contact Samuel Danzon-Chambaud at samuel.danzon-chambaud (at) dcu.ie.
News automation at work receives funding from the Marie-Skłodowska Curie European Training Network JOLTand the Research and Innovation Action EMBEDDIA.
