FuJo Director Jane Suiter promoted to professor

FuJo is delighted to announce that our director Jane Suiter has been promoted to professor by DCU’s Governing Authority. Professor Suiter is a leading authority on disinformation, public communication, and democracy.

She currently leads two multi-million EU projects - on combating disinformation (Provenance) and harnessing digital technologies for journalism (Jolt) - as well as numerous national projects. She is a senior research fellow on the Irish Citizens’ Assembly and is recognised as an international leader for her work on citizen engagement and deliberation.

Jane has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed articles appearing in, amongst others, Science, International Journal of Political Science, Electoral Studies, Politics and the International Journal of Communication. She is the author of three books including Disinformation and Manipulation in Digital Media (2021) and Reimagining Democracy: Lessons in Deliberative Democracy (2019).

She
is a member of the Stewarding Group on the Scottish Citizens’ Assembly,
the OECD's Fuutre Demcoracy network, and the Royal Irish Academy's
nominee for the ALLEA 'Fact or Fake' project on scientific
disinformation. She is also a Visiting Fellow at the Reuters Institute, Oxford University.

In 2020, she received the prestigious Irish Research Council Researcher of the Year award. In 2019, she was a recipient of the 2019 Brown Democracy Medal and the DCU President’s Research Award.
