Book Launch: Environmental Ethics and Film

25 November 2015

Coinciding with the opening of the UN Climate Talks in Paris, Prof. Pat Brereton, Head of the School of Communications at DCU, is launching his new book Environmental Ethics and Film on November 30th at the Irish Film Institute.

The book explores how a wide range of films and documentaries across Hollywood, European and World cinema pose provocative ethical questions related to the environment and address the environmental challenges of the future. The book’s analysis reflects a growing interest in how film represents ecological issues, particularly the apocalyptic dangers of climate change, alongside other related environmental and ethical dilemmas. This accessible and engaging book provides a broad and extensive survey of a wide variety of films in which environmental ethics are, both implicitly and often explicitly, expressed.

John Barry, Professor of Green Political Economy at Queens’ University Belfast, will be the guest speaker at the launch. Environmental Ethics and Film is published by Routledge as part of the series 'Routledge Studies in Environmental Communication and Media'.

Launch: Monday November 30th, Irish Film Institute, 7pm (light refreshments provided)
