FuJo and the Provenance project are sponsoring a panel on countering disinformation at the Age of Misinformation conference on 17 December 2020. The conference is organised by CEST with support from the European Parliament.
The FuJo-Provenance panel will be chaired by Eileen Culloty and feature an impressive line-up of speakers from academia, policy, and industry:
Stephan Lewandowsky is a professor of cognitive science at University of Bristol and co-editor of The Debunking Handbook 2020, which summarises the current state of the science of misinformation and its debunking. His presentation will focus on anti-science disinformation.
Thomas Grandjoua is advocacy coordinator at EU DisinfoLab, an NGO focused on tackling sophisticated disinformation campaigns targeting the EU. Thomas will provide an analysis of gendered disinformation tactics with a focus on on Covid-19 conspiracies and misogyny .
Rachel Armitage is a PhD researcher in political communication at Loughborough University's Online Civic Culture Centre. Rachel will discuss her PhD research on countering political mis/disinformation on social media.
Thomas Zerback is
assistant professor of political communication at University of Zurich
and has conducted experimental studies on the effects of manipulated
messages and countermeasures. His presentation will focus on inoculation
strategies.
Vitalba Crivello is a policy analyst at the European Science-Media Hub of the European Parliament (ESMH), a project of the European Parliament's Panel for the Future of Science and Technology. Vitalba will discuss ESMH's work on disinformation and the work of the recently created European Parliament committee on disinformation.
Eileen Culloty will also contribute to the final round table on “Perspective of Regulation? Self-regulation, Co-regulation and Marketplace of Ideas”.
