About

Dan Lloyd is a PhD candidate at Dublin City University’s School of Communications. His research explores the Attention Economy and its implications for news organisations in the digital ecosystem. His work focuses on cognitive psychology, information dissemination structures, and audience and industry data, aiming to develop new quality criteria for online content beyond existing metrics.

In addition to his doctoral research, Dan is a research assistant for the annual Reuters Digital News Report, Ireland, produced in collaboration with the Reuters Institute at the University of Oxford. The report provides insights into global news consumption trends. Dan has presented his research at leading conferences, including the British Psychological Society’s CyberPsychology Conference and the CyberTherapy and Social Networking Conference. Before academia, he was an editor at The Times and Sunday Times (London), The Irish Times, and the BBC, specialising in digital video and social media. His editorial experience informs his research on audience engagement and media consumption in the digital age.
