Event Fully Subscribed

DCU welcomes you to an afternoon of discussion and debate on media plurality and the future of journalism here and internationally.

The afternoon brings together some of the best in the business of news and newsroom innovation to provoke conversations around the idea that newsrooms as we know them will only survive and thrive when the cultures of digital and journalism collaborate and synergise.

In partnership with the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland we will also be focussing on media plurality and on the impact of the Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2014.  And finally for the newshounds among you we will exclusively reveal the Ireland chapter of the global Reuters Institute Digital News Report 2015.  This report is the largest ongoing comparative study of news consumption in the world and 2015 marks the first year of Ireland’s participation.

Join us at the end of the day for the official launch of FuJo (Institute for Future Media & Journalism).  FuJo will facilitate thought leadership to build engagement, collaboration and a cultural understanding between journalism and digital and data analytic innovation. It will provide a network for journalism, multimedia and computer and data science students and practitioners to collaborate and experiment. FuJo brings together the humanities faculty and the world class institutes of Insight and ADAPT and Ethics at DCU. Round off the evening with a post event drinks reception and networking opportunity with guest speakers including Mark Little, Storyful and John Mullholland, The Observer to name but a few
